The principal of respect for privacy is integral to Hexocene’s core values. We understand how important data privacy is to you individually, and to the protection of free will in society. We therefore want to process as little personal information as possible when you use our website. That is why we have taken the following steps:
- We only collect information from our website that is strictly necessary for us to provide you with the service or product you are choosing. Our use of cookies is therefore significantly limited compared to most business websites.
- We have chosen an analytics provider for our website that doesn’t use cookies. This therefore removes any means of identifying you individually when we do analytics to understand how well our site is performing.
In this policy, we describe in detail how we approach the use of cookies in relation to your use of our website (www.hexocene.com) and services. We intend to expand and refine this policy to make it as accessible as possible.
1. What are Cookies?
Cookies are text files that are discreetly transferred to your device when you visit a website or an app. They are used to collect standard internet and visitor behaviour information.
In general, there are three different ways to classify cookies: how long they last (duration), where they come from (source), and what they do (purpose).
Duration
- Session cookies – These cookies are temporary. They always expire either when you close your browser or when your session on a particular website ends.
- Persistent cookies — These cookies stay on your hard drive until you delete them (which can be manually or via the setup of your browser) or their expiration date arrives. All persistent cookies have to have an expiration date written into them, but the time can vary. The ePrivacy Directive states that they should not last longer than 12 months. However, there are many websites that break that rule so they could remain on your device much longer if you don’t delete them.
Source
- First-party cookies — These are put on your device directly by the website you are visiting.
- Third-party cookies — These cookies are placed on your device by a third party like an advertiser or an analytic system, and not by the website you are visiting.
Purpose
- Strictly necessary Cookies – They are necessary to allow businesses to operate their websites and they are always on when you visit them. They are used to make sure digital services work correctly and are meeting audience needs and interests. You can change them in your browser settings. Please note that turning these cookies off may result in parts of websites not working.
- Persistent Cookies – They are used to improve your experience of using businesses’ websites. They include cookies that avoid you having to log into your account whenever you close and then open a browser.
- Functionality Cookies (also known as Preference Cookies) – They are used in order for websites to work in accordance with your preferences and choices that you make. These could include what language you prefer and location you are in.
- Advertising Cookies (also known as marketing cookies) – They are used to collect information about your visits to websites, the content you viewed, the links you followed and information about your browser, device, and your IP address. The third party service providers that generate these Cookies have their own privacy policies, and may use their cookies to target advertising to you on other websites.
- Performance Cookies – They are used to analyse how businesses’ websites are used and how they are performing. For example, they track what pages are most frequently visited, and from what locations visitors come from.
2. Does Hexocene use cookies?
- We use the least amount of cookies possible while still allowing our website to work – these are categorized as ‘strictly necessary’ cookies.
- Also, if you have a Hexocene account, when you log into your private account area you have the option of using a persistent cookie to allow the website to ‘remember you’ – which avoids you re-entering your details in future sessions. Our persistent cookies do nothing more - they aren’t used by us to track you.
- And that’s it. We don’t use any other cookies on our websites.
3. How does Hexocene improve its website then?
- The majority of analytics services used by websites employ cookies that identify and track you personally. We are different. We want to improve our website and services while also respecting your privacy. We've therefore chosen an analytics provider for our website analytics which doesn't use cookies, and which complies with the GDPR, ePrivacy (including PECR), COPPA and CCPA. Using this privacy-friendly website analytics software, your IP address is only briefly processed in order to anonymise it. We have no way of identifying you in the analytics. As per the CCPA, your personal information is de-identified. No personal data is stored over time.
4. How can I manage and control my cookies?
We do not use a cookies banner on our website. This is legally possible because we have minimised our use of cookies to the point where there is nothing for you to agree to when using the public part of the site. Our approach complies with the GDPR, ePrivacy (including PECR), COPPA and CCPA.
As noted above, when you log into your private account area, you can opt in or out of using a persistent cookies to remember you on the browser. we inform you that you have this option, explain that this will require the use of a persistent cookie, and give you a choice of whether to use it or not. You can still access your account area regardless of what you choose.
You can also set your browser not to accept cookies at all. However, some parts of our website may not work as a result. For further information about how to do so, please refer to your browser’s “help”, “tool” or “edit” section.
If you want to remove previously stored cookies on your device, you can manually delete the cookies at any time. However, this will not prevent the websites from placing further cookies on your device unless and until you adjust your Internet browser settings as described above.
5. How can I contact Hexocene about cookies?
